Westray’s wildlife is not just birds; other wildlife is well represented. Both Grey and Common seals are easy to see around Westray’s coasts and Otters are not infrequently seen. Smaller creatures inhabiting the island include the Great Yellow Bumblebee, many hoverflies and a wealth of seashore life.
A variety of wildflowers can be seen in season such as Northern Marsh Orchid, Ragged Robin, Sea and Bladder Campions, Autumn Gentian, Grass of Parnassus, Lousewort, Spring Squill and the rare Scottish Primrose.
Whales and dolphins are also occasionally seen.
